If you want to add more excitement to your life, open wheel racing is one way to find it. You'll have some idea of how exciting it can be if you have ever watched the professional Indy Car drivers. Open wheel racing has existed for decades and go kart racing is a variant of this open-wheel sport. And just because go carts race on a shorter track at reduced speeds does not mean they aren't as fun. Moreover, do not start thinking that carting is kiddie stuff because many professional race drivers began their careers here.

As with everything else there's a big distinction in the kind of carts that can be driven. Speed is principally determined by the scale of the go cart engines, but it is additionally affected by the quality of the go cart frame, especially when it involves cornering. Super Carts reach the fastest speeds and can reach high speeds of 160 mph or more. Or you can decide to drive other types of go carts that will not be quite so fast. Recreational go carts found at local family fun centers can provide speeds that may reach merely 10 or 15 mph so there's a big range for you to decide from.

2-stroke or 4-stroke motors are generally utilized for racing. Different versions of the 4-stroke motor are incredibly widespread in the amusement parks and fun centers, but electric engines are growing in popularity. Electric motors are idyllic for fun centers for many reasons. They're very inexpensive to maintain and operate, and only need a recharging of the battery when their power gets run down. There's no need to fill them with expensive fuel since they get their power from long-lasting batteries. And gas motors experience a lot more mechanical problems and as a result electrical motors are cheaper to maintain. And, they can be raced inside because they do not produce any unsafe emissions.

Popular makers of 4-stroke go cart engines are Tecumseh, Honda, and Briggs and Stratton. These corporations manufacture low-powered engines that can generate somewhere between 5 and 20 hp. These motors are typically used by novice racers or in amusement fun centers. But do not let the tiny amount of horse power fool you; some of these engines can push a go kart at speeds as much as 50 mph. 50 mph might appear sluggish after traveling 70 mph in your car on the highway, but when you get out on the track it is a whole new ballgame.

Generating about 50 hp is not unattainable with a 4-stroke engine. These motors will run at up to 11,000 rpm and are frequently utilized in numerous National Championship category races, but if you want to race at the highest speeds you'll need to obtain a 2-stroke engine. Some 2-stroke engines can generate as little as 10 hp or fewer, but some will also generate 90 hp or more at 16,000 rpm. Speeds around 160 mph will be achieved with these sturdy 2-stroke motors.

In the olden days the engines were air-cooled, but with the faster speeds nowadays the majority of go cart engines are cooled with water. Some of the less powerful 4-stroke motors are still air-cooled, but the highest hp engines are more often than not cooled by water. No matter what kind of racing you wish to try, whether at slower or faster speeds, there's an engine that will fit your needs.

Driving go karts is an especially enjoyable activity, but off road go carts is frequently more thrilling. For the utmost results on asphalt tracks or dirt roads you should have premium go cart tires.
