It’s easy to ignore it! It has no taste or smell…and it is invisible. But, oh, so deadly!

And to make matters worse, it is extremely common for homes in TN Real Estate

Radon gas is produced by the decay of naturally occurring uranium in soil and water. It is a radioactive, class A carcinogen that causes lung cancer. And the effects are accumulative over a lifetime. It’s the #1 cause of lung cancer among non-smokers….responsible for over 21,000 deaths every year. So, yes it’s important that we pay attention to this risk.

Why not take the precaution of having our TN Real Estate homes tested for this deadly gas? It’s easy to do. Simply contact a home inspector or environmental specialist who can perform this test for you.

A couple of easy ways to remove this gas from your breathable air is simply to stop letting it into the house…by sealing the following areas:

  • Construction joints
  • Cracks in the walls
  • Gaps in suspended floors
  • Gaps around service pipes
  • Cavities inside walls
  • Cracks in solid floors

How does Radon gas enter your home? Typically, the air pressure inside your home is lower than the pressure around the foundation. So, your house acts like a vacuum…drawing this gas in through the foundation cracks and other openings.

Since it’s so easy to ignore what we can’t smell, see or taste…it’s up to us for be proactive in making sure this deadly gas isn’t coming into our homes in TN Real Estate.

At the very least, go into a home improvement store and buy some spray foam insulation. It’s easy to use and does a very good job of sealing those hard-to-get-to cracks. The lives of your family may depend on it.
