Lying with statistics has always been part of politics, but it has perhaps become more prevalent as we have become more mathematically illiterate as a people. In fact, 65.7% of statistic are just plain false. Okay, I invented that one - but to make a point. One of the easiest ways to lie with statistics is to make them up. Being "precise" makes them more believable too, which is why I didn't round that off to 67%.

Many medical experts have found that air travelers usually experience a worse bout of jet lag when they fly from east to west. In general, the more time zones that they cross, flying from east to west, the more severe their symptoms of jet lag will be. However, airline passengers will only experience a milder bout of jet lag when their air flights are going from west to east.

What if self help books just help the self which creates your problems in the first place? I'll get back to that in a moment. First I want to say that many such books certainly can be helpful. A book on how to speak in front of a crowd can help with that, for example, and a book on how to eat or exercise better can be valuable as well.

Pod hotels are not a new phenomenon. They have been around for many years, but most travelers have never heard of them. The concept started in Japan as “capsule hotels”, that were, and are still being used mainly by traveling businessmen on stopovers. However, pod hotels are becoming more and more popular with vacation and holiday travelers as well, because they are convenient and cost a lot less than regular hotels. |

Modern cruise ships have dramatically lessened the problem of seasickness. Today’s larger ships slice through the waves instead of riding on top of them. Also, new technologies like stabilizers, which look like large underwater fins, and counterbalancing systems have greatly reduced any pitch and rolling motion of the ships, all but neutralizing the problem of seasickness. |
